We are raising funds for an automatic antenna for our Canterbury based communications trailer.
In the event of a natural disaster affecting Canterbury, our communications trailer will be available to connect amateur radio operators providing disaster relief communication in a local community with stations in other regions.
The antenna is small and efficient and allows us to operate the trailer based station in a confined space near the centre of a community.
This is particularly useful for disaster relief communication exercises and public events.
Disaster Relief Communications Trailer
The Barrett 4047 Automatic tuning HF horizontal dipole will enable our comms trailer to operate within confined spaces near the centre of small towns, including farmers markets, A&P shows, and other public events.
The amateur hf Alpine Fault Net exchanges welfare messages, reducing emotional trauma by connecting families and friends during a period of considerable uncertainty and likely when no other form of communication is possible.
Additionally, our communications trailer operated by Trust volunteers is available for community events and exercises conducted by other organisations with an interest in disaster relief.
The Trust has secured funding for this project from Canterbury Amateur Radio Development Society Inc. and the Rotary Club of Cashmere Inc.
Additional funding of $3000 is required prior to commencement.
