Schools

At the heart of our community is the local school.

It's the one place we all know, and for many it's where we go to offer support and get help when extreme weather hits and natural disaster strikes.

Our volunteer amateur radio operators with field station capability are encouraged to contact their local principal to obtain permission to operate from the school sports field.

This enables us to establish an HF radio based "last resort" communication link between the town in which the school is located and neighbouring regions, both for exercise and in response to a natural disaster.

Principals

An Alpine Fault Net™ field station located at your school provides a way for your community to exchange messages with people outside the area when telephone and Internet services are down.

When one of our volunteers approaches you for permission to operate their field radio station from your sports field, please contact us so we can verify their credentials and answer any questions you may have.

Our trustees are available to visit your school and meet with you and the school board to tell you what we do, and to understand your needs for disaster relief communication.

Get Prepared

We recommend schools, homes, and businesses obtain 5 watt PRS (personal radio service) portable radios to provide communication within 5km of the school.
